What is Ketamine-
Assisted Psychotherapy?
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.
Shae leads the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical's medical team handles all medical aspects — including determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine, and monitoring outcomes.
KAP is particularly powerful for clients who have found that talk therapy alone hasn't been able to reach the depth of what they're carrying. It creates a window of neurological openness that, when paired with skilled psychotherapy, can shift what years of other treatment may not have moved.
What is Ketamine?
A legal, safe, and effective medicine used to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It works by blocking NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors, forming new synaptic connections and boosting neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. It also enhances overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
How is it administered?
Ketamine can be delivered via IV, injection, nasal spray, or sublingual lozenge. In this practice's partnership with Journey Clinical, only sublingual lozenges are used — self-administered at home or in-session.
How does Ketamine feel?
The effects last approximately 45 minutes and are generally described as pleasant. You may feel a sense of distance from your body and experience perceptual shifts that feel expansive. Motor and verbal abilities are reduced — you'll be lying down comfortably. Mood and neurological benefits can last up to two weeks after each session.
How Ketamine-Assisted
Psychotherapy Works
Initial Consultation with Shae
We complete a 15–20 minute consultation to determine if we're a good fit. If so, we discuss the process and preparation sessions before your initial evaluation with Journey Clinical's medical team.
Medical Evaluation with Journey Clinical
- You'll schedule a virtual evaluation with Journey Clinical's medical team — they review your medical and psychiatric history and determine eligibility.
- If eligible, they develop a personalized ketamine prescription and monitoring plan, and send your first supply of lozenges directly to you.
- You'll be taught to take vitals and self-administer lozenges before sessions begin.
Preparation Sessions
Before any dosing session, we meet for preparation sessions — structured like regular therapy appointments. The goal is to align on the process, build safety, and set meaningful intentions for the KAP experience ahead.
KAP Dosing Session
- Dosing sessions last 1–2 hours, either in-person in Atlanta or remotely via telehealth (where appropriate).
- You'll self-administer your lozenge in a comfortable, reclined position with an eye mask and calming music.
- Shae is present the entire time — holding space and providing support as needed throughout the internal experience.
Integration Sessions
After each dosing session, we meet for multiple integration sessions to process the memories, insights, and emotional material that arose — and to prepare the ground for the next dosing session. Integration is where the lasting work takes root.
Ongoing Follow-up with Journey Clinical
Journey Clinical's team schedules regular follow-ups to monitor your outcomes and manage prescription refills as appropriate. Follow-ups occur at a minimum of once per quarter, based on your treatment plan.
~45 minutes of altered perception per dosing session
Mood and neurological improvement can persist up to 2 weeks after each session
6–8 full KAP sessions to maximize long-term impact
Preparation & integration sessions covered for California & Georgia residents
A session unlike
any therapy
you've experienced.
KAP is not a passive experience. It is an active, often profound internal journey that Shae holds with clinical care from start to finish. Many clients describe gaining clarity and emotional access during dosing that they weren't able to reach through years of conventional therapy.
The integration sessions that follow are equally important — this is where the insights, memories, and openings from the dosing experience are woven into lasting change.
It is recommended to complete 6–8 full sessions for meaningful long-term benefit, though each person's journey is shaped to their unique needs.
Transparent pricing,
flexible pathways.
Shae's standard rate is $215/hr. All packages include preparation sessions before dosing begins. Below are the most common ways people structure their KAP investment.
Aetna Insurance — California & Georgia Residents
